Do This Instead of Reading About Writing
Just write.
There are a lot of stories about how to write, what not to do if you want to be a better writer, etc.
While that is fine, it usually just stems from a person’s experience who has some experience or success writing. So that doesn’t always apply to you and where you are at.
To be clear, this story is not one. The objective of this story is to encourage you to go and actually write stuff.
Many people, myself included, have spent time doing research on what makes certain stories or authors pop. But research doesn’t put words on paper (or screen)! If you want to hone your skills and become a better writer, you have to obey the law of specificity: Doing a certain action over time makes you better and better at that action.
However you must ask yourself why? Why do you want to become a better writer? If the answer is not clear, it will be hard for you to consistently write and become better. As cliche as it sounds, having your why makes everything much easier and enjoyable.
What else do many of you (or me) have to do right now? Keeping yourself busy is a great way to pass time, so we might as well try and be productive!
Write about ideas you have, good or bad, related or unrelated to current events. Or whatever comes to mind, literally anything, but the action of actually writing stuff is what will make you a better writer.
Take care, have fun, stay safe!
