Fear is a weird concept.

At the end of the day, fear is a universal label humans have given to a specific emotional reaction. Fear, miedo, peur, angst. But what one person fears may seem laughable to somebody else.

This is interesting because if something were to be truly feared, why would some laugh at it? Well, the simple answer is because the events that trigger fear in most of us are not as serious as we make them out to be.

In fact, there are really only 2 primal fears that human beings have:

  1. Unexpected loud noises
  2. Falling

The not so simple answer, is that your fears are pieced together from your past experiences and/or future worries.

You don’t want bad experiences to happen again because they were painful to go through, and there is an infinite possibility of things that could go wrong in the future if you keep thinking about it.

Knowing that there are only 2 real causes of fear, you can now start to get over your own manufactured worries and stressors. Lao Tzu said it best:

“If you are depressed you are living in the past. If you are anxious you are living in the future. If you are at peace you are living in the present.”

Practice mindfulness and meditation, it will help you be at peace with yourself and your situation. What else do you have to do while sitting around in quarantine?
