Interesting perspective, it would be neat to see what more open source projects would look like, instead of being absorbed and managed by AWS/GCP etc.

Seems like overkill for AWS for example to have over 200 services, many of which are managed. They could potentially save money and support innovation by buying out valuable companies providing a service and simply taking the name under their cloud platform umbrella, then allowing those existing teams and companies to continue working on their project on their own terms.
