Life Gets So Much Better When You Realize This One Thing

Nobody cares.

It is wild to me how short people’s attention span actually is.

In today’s world, we have constant streams of information constantly flowing into our head, more than we can ever possibly handle or remember.

The trick to getting someone’s attention though, seems to be to make them either angry or upset. However, because we have so much information coming at us, no matter how something makes you feels, it will very shortly be replaced by something else, that makes you forget about the original thing that upset you.

First it’s someone being labelled racist, then it is some country goes to war, then it becomes how offensive a pancake box is. Interestingly though, people tend to forget about all of these things once the next upsetting event hits the news cycle.

This leads me to my main point, people just don’t care what you have done or have going on, because they just won’t remember in a few days. Additionally, people have their own stuff going on that they are thinking about. Do you think somebody who is in danger of losing their job cares about what you are wearing or how you feel about something? Likely not.

What usually ends up happening though, is people act like they do and they will say mean things to others because of some stressors they have going on in their life. They are just projecting their problems onto others, and unfortunately many times people will take this anger projection personally.

However, if you can keep in mind that people will not remember what you did a few days ago, and that they have their own problems they are dealing with, you can become much happier since you won’t be internalizing their opinions about you.

In summary:

  1. People have short attention spans, and will not remember things you previously did (good or bad).
  2. People have their own problems and stress, but many times they will take it out on others.
  3. Don’t take things personally

I know the world seems like a wild place nowadays, but one thing you can always control is how you react to others reacting to you. Don’t take things personally and live your life how you want (within reason), and you will surely find a much higher degree of happiness.
