Sugar is indeed a bad idea, however multiple studies show that there are large benefits to fasting (properly) in regards to energy and mental clarity.

Many people regard fasting as being the same as starvation, which isn’t close to the truth. An efficient way to fast would be to have an 8 hour window in the day where you eat, and the other 16 hours you fast.
