The Best Way to Learn New Technologies
Combine Lectures, Labs, and Quizzes
I was recently looking at the top announcements for AWS re:Invent, and it got me thinking about how fast things change and new technologies are introduced.
It seems like multiple times a year there is some sort of new innovative service or tech released (the most significant one recently that comes to mind is the OpenAI chatbot.), and it is not necessarily limited to just one cloud computing provider (see Microsoft Build) or even cloud computing in general.
Unfortunately the human brain is more challenging to analyze and reprogram than a computer, so when it comes to learning new skills, you should try and adopt a process that lets you retain the most amount of knowledge with the least amount of time spent on it. Not to say you shouldn’t be spending time on important things, but the quicker you can pick something up and figure out how it works the quicker you can then use that technology to build something amazing and serve others.
I’ve spent years refining my process and subsequently helping others do the same, so I would like to share the process I used to help me go from a personal trainer with no background in tech, to an IT professional with 4 years experience who is 3x AWS certified.
